Job Summary
The Leadman is responsible for operating and maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment, overseeing daily crew activities, and ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with company standards. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform daily pre‑trip inspections on assigned trucks and equipment.
- Accurately track crew time, material usage, and quantities of installed items in alignment with company guidelines.
- Maintain familiarity with TMI job numbers and ongoing projects.
- Meet weekly with the General Superintendent to review completed projects, discuss questions, and provide crew updates.
- Prepare and load all required materials for scheduled work.
- Conduct pre‑job discussions with the crew and verify that all employees have appropriate PPE.
- Maintain extra PPE in the vehicle and distribute as needed.
- Correctly load and secure all materials and equipment.
- Drive assigned vehicles and equipment to and from job sites.
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment as needed.
- Oversee overall maintenance and cleanliness of assigned equipment.
- Manually load and unload equipment and materials, or oversee employees performing these tasks.
- Assist with roadway layout and marking operations.
- Perform roadway preparation tasks such as grinding, sealing, and tape removal.
- Ensure work zone traffic control is set up safely and assign certified flaggers as needed.
- Oversee the cleaning and organization of the warehouse, yard, shop, office, and vehicles to maintain a safe, orderly work environment.
- Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety protocols for all employees under your supervision.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to read gauges, indicators, and basic equipment controls.
- Troubleshooting abilities with a focus on practical solutions.
- Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to apply basic math concepts.
- Effective time‑management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, procedures, and plan documents.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to apply job knowledge to achieve results.
- Ability to complete required certifications, including Traffic Control Technician.
- Hold and maintain current forklift certification.
- Maintain a valid CDL.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid CDL driver’s license and current Medical/Physical Card.
- Must meet all fleet policy driver eligibility requirements.
- Ability to successfully complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and Flagger training as assigned.
- Satisfactory background check.
- Availability for on‑call assignments as needed.
- Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role (reasonable accommodations may be provided).
